• September 21, 2024 - Depart from AAA Akron as we head out for the original ROAD TRIP! Enjoy free time at the Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium before we check into our Chicago area hotel for the evening. Enjoy the evening in the windy city at your leisure.
• September 22, 2024 - After enjoying your included breakfast, we'll stop where the road begins. The corner of Jackson Blvd. and Michigan Ave. where historic Route 66 begins. Visit Union Station, an iconic Chicago train station which opened in 1925 and is now 99 years old – it is the hub for Amtrak in the Midwest. Then, visit "The Bean," a famous Chicago landmark. After a short walk, we'll see the exquisite interior of the Palmer House Hotel.
• September 22, 2024 - This afternoon, we'll stop at Water Tower Place with free time to peruse many shops and have lunch on your own at nearby restaurants. After lunch, enjoy a guided architectural river cruise with Wendella Sightseeing Boats, Chicago’s first architectural river cruise operator. Be sure to bring your cameras as we will see many amazing buildings up close and learn about Chicago’s rich architectural heritage and history on this included excursion. Then, a visit to Willis Tower observation deck.
• September 23, 2024 - After our included breakfast we depart our Chicago hotel for Pontiac, IL. In Route well visit the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright, Ernest Hemingway's home, and visit the Standard Oil Gas Station built in 1932 on Route 66 in Odell, Illinois before checking into our hotel for the night.
• September 24, 2024 - Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before our drive through downtown Pontiac, Illinois to see several historic Route 66 murals. Arrive at Route 66 Association Hall of Fame and Museum in Pontiac, Illinois for a self-guided tour. We'll then have time to peruse the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum, experience the exceptional multi-sensory high tech displays and two theater shows. Visit Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield where Abraham Lincoln is buried.
• September 25, 2024 - Following breakfast, we'll enjoy a guided city tour of St. Louis. Then, we'll visit Fast Lane Classic Cars in St, Charles, MO. Arrive at Chain of Rocks Bridge in Missouri and walk across Mississippi River to Illinois. Enjoy the included "Kick Back" dinner at Drury Inn, St Louis.
• September 26, 2024 - Following breakfast we'll stop for a photo opportunity at the Route 66 mural in Cuba, MO. Then we'll make a stop at Munger Moss Hotel along Route 66 and visit the gift shop. After lunch en route we will visit the Route 66 Car Museum. Then, make a stop at Precious Moments Chapel Museum.
• September 27, 2024 - After our included breakfast we'll visit - Cars on the Route – Kan-O-Tex service station – Galena, Kansas Seen on Disney’s Pixar movie Cars. This evening, we have the opportunity to watch the Route 66 vintage car parade.
• September 28, 2024 - Following breakfast, we depart for downtown Springfield to see the National Route 66 Festival where we'll have free time to peruse around the exhibits and vintage cars in Springfield. This evening, we travel to Auburn and make a stop on a portion of the Route 66 brick road to watch sunset over the old Route 66 brick road. This evening we'll enjoy and included dinner at Ariston Cafe.
• September 29, 2024 - After breakfast we depart for home. En Route we Stop in Atlanta, Illinois to see a 19-foot-high statue of a Muffler Man holding a hot dog – great photo op. Stop in Lincoln, Illinois to see the world’s largest covered wagon with Abraham Lincoln in the driver’s seat.
