Just as travel passports get you into (and out of) new and interesting places, so, too, does the all-new Honda Passport.
Advertised as a “rugged midsize SUV,” the Passport is a case of characterizations being relative. The all-wheel-drive system—standard on the top Elite model and available as an option on other trim levels—combined with an inch more ground clearance than the three-row Pilot on which it’s based improve the Passport’s ability to navigate snow-choked streets and maintained fire roads. Just don’t go thinking that this setup is appropriate for hard-core off-roading.
On the blacktop, the 280-horsepower V6 gives this SUV acceleration to spare. Handling is solid, and the ride quality will encourage long road trips.
The comfortable five-passenger interior is well designed, with a back seat that slides fore and aft, reclines, and folds down to create abundant cargo room. Add high marks for safety, and the Honda Passport will likely get you most anywhere you want to go.
