WASHINGTON, D. C. (Friday, May 12, 2017) –– This Saturday, May 13, before the Washington Nationals take on the Philadelphia Phillies, four area AAA Safety Patrollers will be honored on the field for having saved the life of another who was in imminent danger. The game starts at 7:05 p.m.
“These AAA National Lifesaver Award recipients exhibit excellence in leadership and bravery and we are proud that the Washington Nationals will recognize them Saturday,” said Joseph Beddick, Safety Services Manager for the D.C. Metro Area, AAA Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety & Education. “Of the six total award winners nationwide, four students hail from our region, including two students from Maryland, one from Virginia and one from Delaware.”
The 2016-2017 Lifesaving Medal Recipients are:
Emerson Delfin, North Chevy Chase Elementary, Chevy Chase, MD
Ian G. Javelosa, St Martin of Tours, Gaithersburg, MD
Kylie Marie Moorman, Benjamin Banneker Elementary, Milford, DE
Madison Paige Walker, Leslie Fox Keyser Elementary, Front Royal, VA
AAA’s National Review Board selects Lifesaving Medal recipients. To be recognized as a lifesaver, a patrol has to have saved an individual whose life was in imminent danger – with an adult witness. The act must have been while on authorized safety patrol duty in compliance with AAA School Safety Patrol™ policies and standards.
The School Safety Patrol program, administered by The Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education, instills traffic safety through this one-of-a-kind peer leadership program. A tradition since 1920, the AAA School Safety Patrol has helped keep children safe by protecting them from traffic hazards on their way to and from school. Currently, the Mid-Atlantic region has over 93,000 patrols and more than 635,000 children throughout the country participate in the program.
If your school is interested in participating in the School Safety Patrol program, contact Joseph Beddick at jbeddick@aaamidatlantic.com or (800) 999-4952 ext. 4464126.
