Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Earns AAA Traffic Safety Award

 

TOPEKA, Kan. – May 17, 2018 – AAA Kansas on Thursday presented the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office with the department’s first AAA Kansas Community Traffic Safety Award. Jennifer Haugh, Public and Government Affairs manager for AAA Kansas delivered the award plaque to Sheriff Herman Jones.

The awards are presented annually by AAA Kansas to community law enforcement agencies around the state for their efforts to successfully and cost-effectively improve local traffic safety.

“I’m pleased to honor Sheriff Jones and the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office with a silver AAA Kansas Community Traffic Safety award for their effectiveness and outstanding efforts addressing local traffic safety issues,” said AAA Kansas’ Haugh. “Sheriff Jones, your office is to be congratulated, as it is one of 11 sheriff’s departments in Kansas to qualify for a AAA Traffic Community Safety award this year.”

To earn the award, Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office was recognized for a variety of traffic safety activities and programs, including:

  • Having a department policy requiring all employees wear seatbelts
  • Participating in the highly effective student-led Seatbelts Are For Everyone or SAFE program with Rossville, Silver Lake, Seaman, Shawnee Heights, Washburn Rural & Hayden High Schools
  • Conducting click It or ticket, Thanksgiving (STEP), DUI Check Lanes
  • Bucks for buckles occupant protection program, participating in the work zone safety event and many other programs

“The entire Shawnee County community should be proud of its sheriff’s office, as they work hard and make tremendous efforts to keep the roadways safe in the county,” AAA Kansas’ Haugh added.
