CINCINNATI, Oh. (July 2, 2019) – AAA applauds and supports the city of Cincinnati’s new initiative, Vision Zero Cincinnati, to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on Cincinnati’s roadways.

“AAA believes that the traffic safety culture in Cincinnati needs to change among motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians alike as everyone, across all modes of transportation, needs to share the road safely and responsibly,” said Jenifer Moore, AAA spokeswoman.  “One death on our roadways is too many.  We support Cincinnati’s commitment to making our streets safer for all road users and look forward to working with transportation partners throughout the city of Cincinnati to improve the community action safety plans that will ultimately lead to saving lives.”

Cities, states, and municipalities across the United States are adopting Vision Zero policies for a multi-agency approach to road safety with the goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

AAA has been a partner with Vision Zero initiatives in other cities including Philadelphia and Wilmington, DE. By coordinating city departments and like-minded traffic safety organizations these cities have reduced traffic fatalities through a combination of safer road design, increased awareness through education, and targeted enforcement.

Public engagement, education and outreach are critical to ensure the success of a Vision Zero policy.

Cincinnati residents can learn more about the Vision Zero Cincinnati planning process and offer input on traffic safety initiatives at www.cincinnati-oh.gov/visionzero.
