Motor Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15- to 20 year-olds.

  • In 2013, a total of 2,524 teens ages 13-19 died in motor vehicle crashes.
  • About 2 out of every 3 teens killed in crashes were males in 2013.
  • In 2013, 54% of motor vehicle crash deaths among teens occurred on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and most frequently between the hours of 6 and 9PM

With these alarming facts and statistics, the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education in effort to reduce teen driving crashes developed the "Student Safety Club." This program developed by the Foundation enables students to direct their talents and energies toward promoting traffic safety in their school and community. It is hoped that the school's participation in the club can play a large part in preventing teen fatalities and injuries. For more information, contact the Safety Services Manager in your area.
