Advanced Driving

  • 6 to 8-hour hands-on defensive driving program
  • Practice collision avoidance maneuvers in a safe environment

Driver Skills Assessment

Driving skills not as sharp as they once were? Now may be a good time to get a Driver Skills Assessment. Have an instructor ride with you during a routine drive in your car to evaluate your driving patterns, identify your strengths/weaknesses and give you suggestions to help improve your skills. Safe & Sober: A Guide to Driving in Maryland

Formally MVA's 3-hour Alcohol & Drug Education Program

  • The MVA requires persons that possess a driver's license from another country complete this program before they obtain a Maryland license
  • Designed to provide driver education for out-of-country driver license applicants
  • Promotes safe driving, identifies and describes the dangers of impaired driving while addressing Maryland laws regarding impaired driving

Note: Persons who currently possess a driver’s license from another state in the United States, a U.S. territory, Canada or the Yukon territory are not required to attend this program.

Driver Training Materials

CatalogImproving traffic safety is central to the AAA mission. We continue to work with safety organizations and driving instructors across the country to create and refine educational materials and resources to improve the skills and knowledge of all drivers, from novices to mature operators.

Classroom and online driver improvement completions are reported to the MD MVA for MD license holders only. Auto insurance discounts may be available for drivers age 55 and older that complete our senior defensive driving course. The senior defensive driving course does not meet requirements for MVA or court referral. Speak with your insurance agent for details and eligibility for insurance discount.
